Given how AI is reshaping our industry, a quote from the 1983 film WarGames felt especially relevant for this 3d animated portrait. This portrait of Sean is a collaboration with my brother, Richard Spriggs, who created the animation.
I wanted to challenge myself in creating an animated portrait, one of the hardest tasks in 3d. I captured thousands of photo references for multiple different expressions, modelled around 30 full-face blendshapes, which I then split into 140 FACS-based shapes. I used Advanced Skeleton as a foundation for the rig and added custom modifications to meet the specific needs of the project. Sean has a complete body and face rig. Richard then key framed 19 seconds of animation.
